Good Times at Ronnie Scott’s

Whenever I am in London I always have to step in for live music at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. This trip was no different, and on Thursday night I found myself with my girl at Ronnie’s listening to the Reggae inspired jazz music of Monty Alexander and the Concrete Jungle.

Ronnie Scott’s

Now it’s not often that I have an opportunity to kick it at Ronnie’s, so for those rare occasions that I am there, I would like to enjoy the show without unwanted distractions. Thus, my annoyance should be warranted, and even somewhat expected, when a group of loud and inconsiderate patrons sit down at the table in front of me. My agitation was further justified, as the waitress must have noticed their disruptive behavior, and on two separate occasions asked them to please keep it down.

A “Gnome” in Your Phone!

Our day-to-day lives are full of tasks that we know we should do - we need to do - yet, we let these things slip on by for no apparently good reason - often resulting in some lop-sided consequence. There are plenty of examples of this:

  • Ignoring your alarm in the morning for one extra snooze session resulting in an extra 45 minutes in traffic
  • The $35 late fee on the $10 credit card bill you paid a day late
  • The $10 stock you hesitate to buy that rockets to $50

Oh yes, there are plenty of examples that invoke that churning feeling in your stomach - the anger that is just as much your fault as it is justified…Yet, there is one oversite that screams “IN YOUR FACE” a little more than the rest of them:

The overcharges associated with using more minutes than your cell phone agreement allows!

Oh yes - make no mistake - these charges are the worst of them all - there are no simple penalties like 10 or 20% of your monthly bill. No-no, these charges often result in a payment 2 to 3 times more than your standard monthly bill.

So why are we talking about this in the context of model citizenship, you ask? Well there is now technology to help you with this issue - an application that runs on your computer and alerts you when you are getting precariously close to going over your allotted minutes.

So do yoreself a favor, even the field a bit and exert a little contol over your cell service provider! You can find all the details on this service at watchmycell.com . If you are skeptical, Curt the Cyberguy with KTLA News ran a story on the service.

Here’s the best part of the deal: It’s free!!!! No Jack, no Clams, no Moolah, no Dough!!!! We have a concerned citizen that is giving away the means to control what you thought couldn’t be controlled - Your cellphone bill!!! The only thing they are looking for is a simple thank-you!

Now that’s Model Citizenship!!!

M&Ms With Dark Chocolate!

Now, that’s model citizenship! Way to go M&Ms!!!!

Mark and the Magic Sam’ich

It’s so easy to find those citizens amoung us that are not so model. We often run across two or three of these types every day. It is rare, though, that we meet those truly model citizens that make up for the droves of zombies pretending to have a clue…

It is with great pleasure that I introduce our first true model citizen!  In a time of need, this citizen rescued a friend from certain dispare with only a salami sandwhich.

It was almost 4PM - nearing the end of a long work day. I was extremely hungry due to back-to-back meetings taking up my lunch time…I had asked another colleague if he had any snacks and while he was offering up a snack bar, Mark offered up the sam’ich. No hesitation, nothing wanted in return…This was a homemade salami, cheese, lettuce, and bread sandwhich…..donated in a pure model citizen gesture!

No folks, this was no ordinary sam’ich…and no ordinary citizen!
