Rude and Inconsiderate Cell Phone Drivers

What’s worse? Distracted cell phone drivers or inconsiderate road hogs? Today I was lucky enough to come across a not so model citizen that possessed both of these great attributes. I had just pumped gas, and needed to make a right turn out of the station, into the left turn lane. Now this was a fairly busy 4 lane street, so the window of opportunity for me to make it into that left turn lane was pretty small. I was in luck however, because there were only 2 cars in the lane closest to me (but not blocking me), and the rest of the lanes were open. This would make my exit much more expedient. Unfortunately, as I got ready to pull out, a lady in a Mercedes SUV comes racing along the right lane, and stops right in front of me. Blocking me in. What’s worse, is that she was sitting there yapping on her cell phone, completely oblivious to what was going on.
Yappy

2 Minutes later, the light turns green and she moves forward, but by then there were too many cars in all the lanes, thus preventing me from getting into the left turn lane. Since there were people behind me waiting to exit as well, I just made a right into the closest lane, and made a U turn further down the road.  So what do you think..would YOU have let me through?

I always try to stop so I can let someone out in that type of situation. I hate when someone blocks me in like that and appriciate it when someone lets me get out, so I repay the favor by letting someone else out of a parking lot. There is only one place where I wouldn’t have done it, and that is only because it is a very dangerous street because all the idiots seem to go along there, so letting someone out at that spot would probably cause an accident making the person waiting to have to wait even longer.

You know, this happens quite often and there is really NO GOOD REASON for it. Not only are they blocking cars from getting out of the parking lot, but they are blocking all the on-coming cars that might be trying to get from the with a left turn (on streets without raised medians). So actually, these “block” heads are holding up traffic coming out of the parking lot and affecting the traffic on the opposite side of the street…All so they can YAP-YAP-YAPPY-DIDDLE-DOO! - (just doing my part to point out the cause-and-effect relationship to this display of not so model citizenship!)

The real question here is - How do you get these people to let you through before you end-up in Howie’s situation: shunned from the left turn lane forever!!!!

Mad Props to Joannie for helping to “show the way” for some of these less-than considerate drivers!!!

I let people in from that type of situation all the time. There is a gas-station near my house with the same setup. A half of second delay on my part can save the person needing to cut in a lot more time.

I hate when people do this. I got stuck trying to turn out of a gas station once for like FIVE minutes! Darn you YAPPERS!

Alas! Yet, another not-no-model driveway block witnessed today! We must raise awareness of this issue! Right as we drove into San Clemente this afternoon, we witnessed the following:

We were traveling in the middle lane and as we approached an intersection (slowing down as the light turned red), we noticed a car to the right trying to pull out of a store parking lot. The drive way the car was trying to come out of was very close to the intersection - leaving the driver very little room to maneuver. Still, the driver inched the nose of her car out enough to make her intentions known.

Just then some brilliant guy in an SUV pulled up in the right lane and blocked her in. Hoping for this guy to come to the realization that he was committing a not-so-model move, I watched to see if he would look over and acknowledge the driver of the trapped car - NOT EVEN A GLANCE!!!

Now, I know this guy saw the car in the driveway, he obviously just didn’t care. So, because of his selfishness, he essentially forced the driver of the other car to try to escape the driveway while traffic rapidly moved through the green light…

Come on now, people! Show a little compassion for your fellow drivers! ‘Else, you too will one day be trapped in the driveway!!!
