Make Up Your Mind in the Checkout Line
I came across a “Not So Model” incident today at the local supermarket which I would like to highlight as today’s topic of choice. Now keep in mind this was a Trader Joe’s market, so the checkout aisles were not heavily partitioned like those of traditional supermarkets.

They are more like rows of checkout kiosks with a small conveyor belt and cashier to ring up your purchase. As I got ready to pay for my items, the situation at the checkout aisles was as follows:
As I approach the checkout, I noticed a couple straddling aisles 2 and 3, hesitant to commit to a specific cashier. I proceed to stand in aisle 3, but still maintaining some distance BEHIND the hasty couple. The couple then proceeds to walk over to aisle 1, which looks to have moved further along then the other aisles. Dissatisfied with the line status of aisle 1, the couple then RETURNS to aisle 3, but this time they cut directly in front of me! Now they must have justified this rude behavior in their little brains by the fact that they were 1/2 way in my aisle earlier… but once you commit to another aisle, all bets are off!
Another cashier must have noticed this, and immediately came up to me and walked me over to aisle 2, (which was pretty much open at this point) to ring me up. Finally, as she is scanning my items, I notice that the couple had left aisle 3, and walked back over to aisle 1!!
So my question is: What incites such haste in people these days? Have they become that impatient (and perhaps competitive) that they MUST pick the fastest checkout aisle? I mean c’mon, how much time can you possibly save? 2 Minutes? Why engage in such rudeness (taking up both aisles), and in this couples case, causing even further delays, just to potentially save a minute or two by trying to time the faster checkout line.
Rude people who can’t make up their minds about which checkout line to get into: Not So Model Citizens!

Hmmm I usually just let the rudeness take on a “positive” spin in my favor. I look at it as perhaps it’s fate telling me that I am meant to be where I am for a reason and I just let the rude ones have at it…no sense fretting and getting ulcers when I know karma will come back and bite the butt that stands before me sooner or later anyway. Perhaps those extra 2 minutes I spend IN the line were what kept me from a traffic accident..one just never knows the mysterious ways things work..
