In the Words of the “Reverend”…
So - I want to start this entry with a simple definition from dictionary.com :
big·ot [big-uh
t] –(n) a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.
Well, with the proper definition established, let’s explore a recent comment made by “Civil” rights activist Al Sharpton. While out debating what he has no business debating (politics), Al Sharpton denounced Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s spiritual faith with the following comment:
“As for the one Mormon running for office, those that really believe in God will defeat him anyway, so don’t worry about that. That’s a temporary situation.” (Check the CNN Story)
From what I understand, I would guess that intolerance of another’s religious beliefs constitutes a bit of bigotry. Keep in mind that the “reverend’s” comment comes on the heels of his campaign to get Don Imus fired for his questionable remarks…
What’s interesting here is the stark difference in the behavior of the offenders. Don Imus made multiple public apologies, met with the girls he offended, and even met with Sharpton to discuss the issue. On the other hand, not only has Sharpton failed to apologize to Romney (or the entire Mormon population), he has insisted that Romney’s reaction to the comments are intended only to stir up controversy?!?!?

Bigotry is one thing - but a hypocritical bigot is a whole other level! Al Sharpton is intolerable - and should step down from the public forum. His comments and refusal to accept any fault are shining examples of one of the key issues in our society - echoed time and time again in these stories -
A stark refusal to take responsibility for one’s actions!
At least Don Imus stood up and faced the music, and in my eyes - that makes him a far better man than Sharpton ever will be!
Hypocritical Bigotry - Not Model Citizenship!!!
Al Sharpton - Not a Model Citizen!!!

Sharpton was debating Christopher Hitchens, an atheist, and the comment was aimed at him.

Either you didn’t read the quote and are getting confused with another story about this idoit, or you mis-posted your comment on the wrong article.
Sharpton wasn’t calling an atheist a mormon. Please supply your connection between your comment and the original post. It is seriously out of place.
