Woman loses an eye while trying to apply makeup when driving!
At least that’s what SHOULD have happened today on the 241 Southern California Toll Road. In keeping with this week’s vehicle etiquette theme, I could not pass up on reporting today’s incident. While driving on the 2 lane (average speed of 80mph) toll road, I came across another vehicle that caught my attention. It was a fellow Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. He pulled up next to me and gave the standard wave/thumbsup which most car enthusiasts do when they see a fellow driver with the same car. He then proceeded to pass me and I pulled up behind him at cruising speeds. We were in the left lane of the two lane highway, and slowly creeping up on an SUV which was on the right hand side. At that moment I see the SUV swerve dangerously into the Evo’s lane, nearly running him off the road before violently swerving back into the right lane. As it was my turn to pull up next to the SUV, I glance over and what do I see? A woman putting on eye makeup, COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS to what had just happened! Now I must admit, we are all guilty at times of not being 100% focused while driving, but this is ridiculous. I mean, what’s next? Cutting your toenails while at a stoplight? At least then the car wouldn’t be traveling 80+mph if you did that..hmm.. cruise control anyone?
Well anyways, as I pull up next to her, I honk and give her the requisite thumbsdown. She looks at me confused (as I would expect from somebody who probably ate copious amounts of Elmers glue as a child) and continues about her business. I pull up next to the Evo and we both shake our heads. At times like this I wish I had a modelcitizenship bumper sticker or something to refer them to this site (or maybe some James Bond gadgets in my car, like the rocket launcher and tacks).
So what do you think? Do you guys out there have any outrageous distracted driver stories? Are you guilty of this? Don’t be afraid to post!

You know, I think there was an ER episode about this very thing…some lady came in with an eye-liner pencil embedded in her eye - looked a wee bit painful, too!
There are so many things that distract drivers, eh? Food, Phones, Shaving, Arguing, Radio, etc….you would think that any extraneous activities involving vision would be a strict no-no….Yeah right! More important to look pretty than risk the lives of complete strangers….

I think we should break down what is and what isn’t acceptable while driving.
Acceptable distractions while driving:
- Hot girls flashing you
- Certain “oral” distractions
- Honking screaming and “shaking fist violently” at other bad drivers
- Trying the new “open beer bottle with my mouth” trick that you just learned.
Unacceptable distractions while driving:
- Putting on makeup
- Singing and Dancing to the new ABBA soundtrack.
- Reading the newspaper
- Filling out crossword puzzles
- Unsuccessfully opening a beer bottle with your mouth and trying to use a bottle opener.

As best put by Outkast:
I hope she’s speeding on the way to the club
Trying to hurry up to get to some
Baller or singer or somebody like that
And try to put on her makeup in the mirror
And crash, crash, crash.. into a ditch!
Another item to add to your list of Unacceptable distractions:
- shaving while driving (male or female)
- and for you IT geeks…surfing on your LAPTOP
with your aircard!!

Yes, what is it about these ever-prevalent women who paint their faces in the morning while they drive? It’s like they take it upon themselves to check whether the lane markers are properly distributed every 50 ft. I wasn’t aware that the department of transportation had undercover employees working for them. We might have some disgruntled city employees if they find out about this one. Either that or we have some model citizens providing these free services. I think not!
Damn these women, can’t they wake up 15 minutes earlier to mask themselves before they buckle up?
Which brings me up with this idea..
You know those Miller Light commercials where a bunch of guys sit around at a table declaring what is and is not considered man laws? Well if you don’t know visit here: http://www.manlaws.com/
Point being, we should have ‘unofficial official’ model citizenship laws! Thereby I am officially declaring modelcitizenship.com its first law. Please note this is a proposed law and can be subject to change.
1) Women, transvestites, etc shall not be permitted to apply any and all facial substances to their faces while driving. The sun visor shall only be used to block sunrays and/or for emergencies.
This law SOOO should have gotten passed before the whole cell phone deal. =P
Anyone else for proposed model citizenship laws?
